Week 1 continued - Preparing the Foundation

These footings go way down - perfect for a solid foundation.  The concrete blocks will be 7-8 blocks high.

Week 2 - Foundation is set

Everything nice and level.  This addition is going to be higher than I imagined.  Encountered our first issue - sewage lines had to be replaced.  No problem for this crew - clay lines replaces with ABS.   First set of inspections are done.

Week 6 - More Walls and Rafters Installed

In a very short time, AJ's team of framers has nearly all the walls in place as well as the majority of the new roof section.  We decide to redo the whole back part of the roof in order for the new and existing roof to be consistent.

Week 9 - Windows and French Door Installed.  Lighting and Electrical Lines Installed.

We have windows and our new french doors.  All recessed lighting and electrical lines have been installed.  A new 200 amp service is being installed and relocated to meet permit requirements.

Week 10 - Demolition of Existing Family Room Begins

Demolition has begun on the existing family room.  All wood paneling to be removed and the entire room drywalled.  Our electrician received a major shock this week as all electrical lines had to be redone.  A note to all contractors out there:  NO ROMEX ALLOWED IN BURBANK.

Week 11 - Demolition of Family Room Completed

Demolition of existing family room completed.  Insulation installed on all exterior walls.  Drywalling is next.

Weeks 12 and 13 - Drywall installed

Drywalling started. Quality was an issue from the start.

Week 14 - Majority of Drywall Work Completed

Drywaller was terrible.  I ended up having to fix a lot of the work myself - and my drywall works is lousy.  We marked every imperfection on the walls.  We also primered the walls tinted in some sample colors.

Weeks 15 and 16 - Primer Applied to Walls

Our contractor suggested primering all the walls in order to bring out the problems with the drywall.

Project was supposed to be completed by 16th week.

Week 17 - Stucco Applied to Exterior Walls

First coat of stucco is applied to the exterior walls.

Week 18 - Work begins on the Master Bath

Shower floor is hotmopped.  The jacuzzi tub is inspected.  It turns out Home Depot ordered a left hand unit, instead of a right-hand unit.

Week 19 - Doors Installed and Exterior Stucco Applied

The new solid core doors are installed.  The finish exterior color coat is applied.  More quality concerns as the color of the stucco is not consistent.

Weeks 20 through 24 - Finish Work Begins

Hardwood is installed in the family room.  First coat of paint applied to walls.  Interior window casings are installed. Seating/cabinet space underneath bay window is completed.  Electrical is connected.

Project is already 4 weeks late.  We are growing increasingly impatient with our contractor.

Week 25 - Finish Coats of Paint Applied.  More Finish Work Completed.

Work has been extremely slow.  I apply final coats of paint to the walls and molding in preparation for the hardwood floors to refinished.

Weeks 26 and 27 - Hardwood Flooring Completed

Hardwood flooring is completed after a week and 3 coats of clear coating.  The existing floors matched the new flooring really well.

Weeks 28 and 29 - Master Bathroom Nearly Completed

Shower enclosure, jacuzzi tub, toilet, are installed.  Thomasville cabinetry, undermount sink, and faucets are completed.

Week 30 - Master Bedroom Carpet is Installed

Carpet from The Great Indoors is installed.  Bedroom furniture is has already arrived.

Week 31+

We're finally just about done.  Minor finishing touches remain.
