0 - Before Construction Started
This project includes adding a master
bedroom, bath, and walk-in closet. It also extends and remodels
the existing family room. Upon completion, it adds 635 square
feet plus additional deck space. |

1 - Demolition and Preparing the Foundation
These guys made short work of
demolishing the existing porch and lawn areas. No turning back
now!! |

1 continued - Preparing the Foundation
These footings go way down - perfect
for a solid foundation. The concrete blocks will be 7-8 blocks
high. |

2 - Foundation is set
Everything nice and level. This
addition is going to be higher than I imagined. Encountered our
first issue - sewage lines had to be replaced. No problem for
this crew - clay lines replaces with ABS. First set of
inspections are done. |

3 - Framing is Underway
Work has slowed down due to bad weather and
scheduling the necessary inspections. Another
change order . . . we decided to extend out another 2 feet primarily
for the master bedroom. Foundation and rough plumbing
pass inspections. |

4 - Subfloor Installed Sub
floor is down and more demolition is done to prepare the back
walls. Framing the walls is up next/.

5 - We Have Walls
We have walls. Here is a nice
shot of the bay window for the master bedroom. The new rear
opening for the dual french doors is also being framed. |

6 - More Walls and Rafters Installed In
a very short time, AJ's team of framers has nearly all the walls in
place as well as the majority of the new roof section. We
decide to redo the whole back part of the roof in order for the new
and existing roof to be consistent.

7 - We Have a Roof The
structure has really taken shape now. All walls are in place.

7 continued - Exterior Sheeting is Installed Exterior
sheeting of the walls in underway. The roof has been tied into
the existing roof line.

8 - Sheathing Completed. New roofing shingles installed.
All wall have been installed and
framing is nearly complete. The entire back half of the house
gets new shingles to ensure a proper color match. |

9 - Windows and French Door Installed. Lighting and Electrical
Lines Installed.
We have windows and our new french
doors. All recessed lighting and electrical lines have been
installed. A new 200 amp service is being installed and
relocated to meet permit requirements. |

10 - Demolition of Existing Family Room Begins
Demolition has begun on the existing
family room. All wood paneling to be removed and the entire room
drywalled. Our electrician received a major shock this week as
all electrical lines had to be redone. A note to all contractors
out there: NO ROMEX ALLOWED IN BURBANK. |

11 - Demolition of Family Room Completed Demolition
of existing family room completed. Insulation installed on all
exterior walls. Drywalling is next.

12 and 13 - Drywall installed Drywalling
started. Quality was an issue from the start.

14 - Majority of Drywall Work Completed Drywaller
was terrible. I ended up having to fix a lot of the work myself
- and my drywall works is lousy. We marked every imperfection on
the walls. We also primered the walls tinted in some sample
colors.

15 and 16 - Primer Applied to Walls Our
contractor suggested primering all the walls in order to bring out the
problems with the drywall.
Project was supposed to be completed by
16th week.

17 - Stucco Applied to Exterior Walls First
coat of stucco is applied to the exterior walls.

18 - Work begins on the Master Bath Shower
floor is hotmopped. The jacuzzi tub is inspected. It turns
out Home Depot ordered a left hand unit, instead of a right-hand unit.

19 - Doors Installed and Exterior Stucco Applied The
new solid core doors are installed. The finish exterior color
coat is applied. More quality concerns as the color of the
stucco is not consistent.

20 through 24 - Finish Work Begins Hardwood
is installed in the family room. First coat of paint applied to
walls. Interior window casings are installed. Seating/cabinet
space underneath bay window is completed. Electrical is
connected.
Project is already 4 weeks late.
We are growing increasingly impatient with our contractor.

25 - Finish Coats of Paint Applied. More Finish Work Completed. Work
has been extremely slow. I apply final coats of paint to the
walls and molding in preparation for the hardwood floors to
refinished.

26 and 27 - Hardwood Flooring Completed Hardwood
flooring is completed after a week and 3 coats of clear coating.
The existing floors matched the new flooring really well.

28 and 29 - Master Bathroom Nearly Completed Shower
enclosure, jacuzzi tub, toilet, are installed. Thomasville
cabinetry, undermount sink, and faucets are completed.

30 - Master Bedroom Carpet is Installed Carpet
from The Great Indoors is installed. Bedroom furniture is has
already arrived.

We're finally just about done.
Minor finishing touches remain.
